DISTAL END RADIUS FRACTURE - WRIST BONE FRACTURE
Distal Radius Fracture – Wrist Fracture Treatment & Surgery
A distal radius fracture, commonly referred to as a wrist fracture, is one of the most common fractures of the upper limb. It occurs near the wrist joint and can result from a fall on an outstretched hand, road traffic accident, sports injury or direct trauma. These fractures may occur in people of all age groups, including younger patients following high-energy trauma and older adults following a simple fall.
At Dr. Harish Madrekar’s Orthopaedic Clinic, each wrist fracture is carefully assessed with clinical examination and appropriate X-rays to determine the fracture pattern, displacement, angulation, shortening, comminution and involvement of the wrist joint. CT scans may be recommended for complex intra-articular fractures or when detailed assessment of the fracture pattern is required.
Treatment depends on the patient's age, activity level, fracture pattern, stability and degree of displacement. Stable and minimally displaced fractures may be treated with closed reduction, plaster or cast immobilization and regular follow-up X-rays
